Anthony "Herb" Amen was born on June 22, 1941 in Pittsburgh, Pa.  Born and raised on Larimer Avenue in East Liberty, Herb was deeply ensconced in Italian American life and culture from childhood.  Passing his youth in this infamous Little Italy, Herb partook in the cultural traditions and practices that sustained this Italian American neighborhood in Pittsburgh.
