Introduzione- Introduction

Providenza Rinella Crisanti was born on October 24, 1904 in Termini Imerese, Italy.  The daughter of a Sicilian landowner, Providenza loved to learn and was afforded the luxury of education from a young age.  With her mother’s encouragement, Providenza attained the proper education and training to become a teacher in Italy.  In 1926 however, the course of Providenza’s life changed when she met Frank Crisanti.  A paesano (countryman) who had immigrated to America, Frank was introduced to Providenza upon his return visit to Termini Imerese.  The two were married just two months after their first introduction in December 1926.  In March 1927, Providenza left all she had known in Italy and embarked alone to join her husband, who was working for his family's wholesale produce business in Pittsburgh, Pa.
