un Gusto di Larimer Avenue- A Flavor of Larimer Avenue

An image of Larimer Avenue Italian Americans gathered in front of Our Lady Help of Christians Roman Catholic Church for the Saint Anthony Festival in 1932 or 1933.

Passing his youth within the familiar confines of East Liberty's LIttle Italy, Herb Amen was nourished by Italian American culture from childhood.  Although just one of the many Little Italies that developed in Pittsburgh throughout the first half of the twentieth century, the Italian American community in East Liberty became infamous for the number of businesses, churches, schools, and social organizations that fostered and enriched the practice of Italian American cultural traditions in this neighborhood.  Listen as Herb Amen articulates the essence of this Italian American community.
